Dr. Carlo Rodriguez Champion of School Choice Award

Introduction

Florida and the nation has lost a champion for equitable school choice

Carlo RodriguezThe second year application cycle of the Dr. Carlo Rodriguez Champion of School Choice Award Committee invites ALL SCHOOL CHOICE STAKEHOLDERS to apply. This includes all individuals who support the mission that “All Florida parents will be informed of all educational options and opportunities.” Applicants may be state of Florida or school district employees, Florida participants in community or parent based organizations (public or private) which promote School Choice and/or parental involvement for school choice,  or private businesses or individuals who have made contributions (service or funding) to School Choice/parental involvement.

Winners of this prestigious award will receive a certificate, plaque and a half-scholarship for a master’s degree or doctoral degree of study to Nova Southeastern University’s Fischler School of Education and Human Services.

 

 

Criteria

The applicant will choose two of the following areas to identify contributions to School Choice:

  1. Inter-district or inter-agency collaboration and/or agreements that remove barriers and increase Choice
  2. Parent awareness and assistance
  3. Marketing strategies that reach targeted population and empowers families
  4. Practices that promote equity
  5. Innovative transportation practices
  6. Effective Parent Resource Centers

Application Format

The application must be fully completed in one document, no attachments, with a cover page, table of contents, introduction, vitae, and three letters of recommendation. All supporting documentation must be included in the main document. We have an application template to get you started, so download the template and nominate your champion for school choice today!

Deadline

The deadline for all applications is July 30th, 2009, with application screenings and final decisions by August 20th, 2009. The Award Winners will be recognized before  the State Board of Education meeting on September 15th, 2009.
