The mission of this bureau is to lead statewide efforts to close the achievement gaps affecting students whose educational opportunities are limited by low-performing schools, to increase awareness among parents and other community members about public school options in Florida and to ensure all students are well-served and NO STUDENT IS LEFT BEHIND.

FLDOE Choice Office

The Florida Department of Education is focused on ensuring that students of all ages have access to learning - regardless of what their educational needs are or where they live. The Choice Office is an influential voice and a catalyst towards excellence for primary and secondary school children by developing, adopting, promoting, and financing ideas that further educational choice and alternatives in Florida. The Choice Office offers information on charter schools, magnet schools, Opportunity Scholarships, McKay Scholarships for Students with Disabilities, Corporate Income Tax Credit Scholarship, home education, and non-public schools.

ED.gov Choices for Parents

The public school choice option gives parents the chance to ensure that their children are attending a school where they are getting the instruction they need to succeed academically, while at the same time, allowing school officials to make improvements in the children's regular schools.

USDOE School Choice

This Web site is designed to help districts raise student achievement through public school choice programs. If you've been thinking about starting a choice program in your own district, or improving the one you already have, this site offers resources drawn from diverse districts across the country that have been identified as having promising practices related to choice.

Small Schools Workshop

The Small Schools Workshop collaborates with teachers, principals, parents, and district leaders to create new, small, innovative learning communities in public schools. In addition to providing direct assistance through partnerships with schools, the Small Schools Workshop actively participates in many initiatives to broaden and deepen recognition of the importance of school size to student learning and the role of small schools in furthering positive whole-school and systemic change.

To create, promote, develop and sustain small diverse high performing secondary school programs incorporating the ten priciples of the coalition of essential schools.
