Kathy HarrisNational Institute for Educational Options (NIEO) at the Fischler School of Education and Human Services is offering a set of services called Motivation Matters.  It is grounded in the belief that motivation and engagement are the fast track to improving achievement, increasing graduation rates and promoting successful post secondary transitions. The materials and workshops focus on identifying and capturing the intrinsic incentives to learn.   Each of us has a unique motivation profile that influences the things that matter to us or that we naturally find interesting.   Using a simple tool to identify preferences, parents and educators can team around a positive aspect of each student and keep kids engaged in learning.    The Motivation Matters program has services to:

  • help parents and kids choose the right school option,
  • provide educators with strategies for differentiating instruction to create highly engaging learning activities, and
  • assist districts and school staff to forge new, stronger parent partnerships.

NIEO also provides a range of services to support school reform initiatives.

The Southeast Coalition of Essential School Center has established a menu of professional development activities to serve the identified needs of their member districts.   They welcome non members to these workshop and critical conversations and the costs are minimal.   Serving primarily secondary school reform initiatives, the upcoming events range from SLC 101 for new teachers in smaller learning communities and Career Academies to forming strong professional learning communities through critical friends’ strategies.    Please check out the options at http://www.souteastces.org.
