Celebrating another successful year for our students, and our teachers

  • Each year LJPS has been eligible for a School Report Card grade, the school has been ranked an “A” and has made Adequate Yearly Progress according to the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act.
  • Drama:  Eleven LJPS middle school students competed and placed at the state Junior Thespians Competition in Orlando.  This is the second year in a row that our Thespians have earned state-level awards.
  • Band:  Two band students were invited to participate in the Troy State University Middle School Honor Band.
  • Science Fair:  42 middle school students received awards at the Panhandle Regional Science Fair, and four students advanced to the state competition.
  • Community Service:  Every one of our 705 students participated in community service activities ranging from Jump Rope for Heart (American Heart Association) and Relay for Life (American Cancer Society) to visiting senior citizens in nursing homes to writing letters to soldiers overseas.
  • World Languages:  Our middle school students enjoyed communicating with their pen pals in France, Canada, and Spain, and our elementary students did a wonderful job with the Spanish portion of their Graduation by Demonstration projects.
  • Odyssey of the Mind:  OM team went to the International Odyssey of the Mind Competition in Lansing, Michigan.
  • Swimming: Our girls’ swim team was County Champions.
  • Art:  Four elementary students won awards in the Sakura Cra-Pas Colorful World Contest, and their art pieces were included in the Sakura International Youth Art Exchange Program. Middle school student, Alston Bondi, was selected as the Arts and Design Society 8th Grade Artist of the Year, and 8th grader, Joanna Brown’s, collage was awarded Best in Show at the Okaloosa County School District Art Show.  Middle school students also created banners to honor the home countries of the players in the United States Tennis Association’s international tournament.
  • Science:  8th Grader Katherine Stone’s entry, Harvesting Light Two: A Study of the Effects of Ascorbic Acid and Tocopheryl Acetate on Free Radical Formation on Genetically Identical Pothos Subjected to  Ultra-Violet Light, was judged to be a Semifinalist for the 2007 Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge.
  • National Board Certified Teachers:  Technology teacher, Jona Friedman, was designated a National Board Certified teacher.
  • IB Art Examiner:  Abby Brown, middle school art teacher, has been selected as an art examiner for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization.
  • Art Teacher Honor Roll:  Elementary art teacher, Maryanne Baker, was named to the Original Works Art Honor Roll for her expertise in art instruction.
  • USA Today All-USA Teacher Team:  Ms. Nancy Berry, 1st grade teacher, was named to the USA Today All-USA Teacher Team.  She was also honored as by the Florida State Board of Education and by State Representative Jeff Miller.
