Employees Earn State Awards for the After School Program
Panama City, FL - Oscar Patterson Elementary School’s 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) after school program administrator, Darlene Richardson, and teacher, Gayle Broyles, have received the Florida’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Shining Star Award, presented by the Florida Department of Education.
The Florida Department of Education, in partnership with the University of Florida, presented two of the five awards during the 21st CCLC Spring Conference in Daytona Beach on March 28, 2008 to Oscar Patterson’s after school program. Florida’s 21st CCLC Shining Star Award is designed to recognize an outstanding 21st CCLC program administrator, teacher, volunteer, student and site that have demonstrated exemplary dedication and commitment to high quality 21st CCLC programs in Florida.
Mrs. Darlene Richardson was presented a trophy for the Shining Star Award and named as Florida's Top Administrator of the 21st CCLC Program. Ms. Gayle Broyles was presented a trophy for the Shining Star Award and named as Florida's Top Teacher of the 21st CCLC Program.
The purpose of this award is to recognize and promote innovative programs and activities within 21st Century Community Learning Centers and individuals who have made unusual contributions and/or provided extraordinary services to the program. Awards are selected on the criteria of innovative practice for recruitment, training, teaching, achievement and success for the 21st CCLC before/after-school program. Innovative practices include techniques that address removing barriers, parenting, student learning, dropout prevention, communicating, volunteering, training, decision making, and collaborating with the community and others. The selection process was administered by the Florida Department of Education.
