Letter from the FPSCC PresidentFebruary 2009
Happy New Year! As we enter into a new year of continuous improvement, I sincerely thank each of you for the opportunity and honor to serve as your new President for the Florida Public School Choice Consortium (FPSCC). Under my leadership and with your support, Florida will lead the nation in school choice options. The “Florida Public School Choice Consortium” is a professional organization made up of School Choice advocates throughout the state, advocating equal access to high quality school choice for all students and parents. Professional groups involved in this organization include, but not limited to, Open Controlled School Choice, Magnet, Charter, Virtual, NCLB Choice, Career Academies or other public school choice options. As president, I am seeking the involvement and support from each of you. As active participants responsible for implementing school choice, we need to continue our quest and access to the latest research, grants, state board rules, statutory requirements and “best practices. It is vital that we share our insight and perspectives on the “best practices” for school choice with each other. Our connections with our community based organizations and our networking efforts must remain vigorous as we collaborate with universities and federal and state support networks to build our knowledge base as we advocate for parental choice. It is critical that your district be represented at all of the events for the upcoming year. Your ideas and input is vital as we try to ensure quality, equity and diversity in our School Choice offerings around the state. I hope during this year’s experience as your president, I will get an opportunity to meet and hear your ideas and be an encouragement for your plan of action for the implementation of Public School Choice! The Florida Public School Choice Resource Center E-Newsletter will be published quarterly again this year. Please share the exciting school choice activities and initiatives in your district. Your contributions to the e-newsletter should be forwarded to Carla McMullen at carlajon@gate.net. For school choice updates, visit the following websites at www.schoolofed.nova.edu/choice and www.fpscc.net. I look forward to working with each of you this year, as we make certain all students and parents have a “VOICE” in “SCHOOL CHOICE” Sincerely,
