Inlet Grove CTE Student of the YearInlet Grove Community High School’s newly NCAC-certified Drafting Academy gives a solid foundation to students who plan to go to college to study pre-architecture. The academy teaches the technological aspects of drawing, while giving Inlet Grove’s future architects knowledge and passion for the career.

On Feb. 18, drafting instructor Carlos Acosta and Inlet Grove nominated and awarded drafting student Jabyes Cross for the Career and Technical Education (CTE) student of the year. “I nominated him because he has been working very hard this past year,” Mr. Acosta says.

Seventeen-year-old Cross, who will be a senior during the 2009/2010 school year, was happy when he found out that he was chosen as CTE’s student of the year. “I was in the class when Mr. Acosta announced the good news to me,” Cross says.

Cross’ next accomplishment took place April 30, when he represented Inlet Grove’s career academies at the annual PACE luncheon.

Cross’ goal is to graduate from high school, attend a university, and become an “inspirational role model” for future generations. He currently plays basketball and football for Inlet Grove, and has already been contacted by Princeton University. “I wouldn’t say I am successful right now, but I am on the verge of becoming successful.”
