Printing Association of Florida Honors West Boca High Academy Students

Students enrolled in the Drafting & Design Academy’s Communications Technology Program received fifteen awards at the 2009 Printing Association of Florida Conference, held on August 8 in Orlando, Florida.  Three “Best of Category” awards were presented for Brochures:  John McCarthy and Kristen Wiley; Wearables:  Ashley Herbst and Katie Delacruz; and Digital Printing:  Laurie Peterson and Ilana Dansky.  Three “Awards of Excellence” were earned for Illustration/Photography:  Samantha Telsey; Editorial:  Lea Halfon; and Wearables:  John McCarthy.  Nine “Honorable Mention” honors were awarded for Illustration:  Charmaine Beyer, Samantha Sansone and Brendan Opris; Letterhead/Logo:  Kristen Wiley, Digital Printing:  Tara Dodaro; Wearables:  Kristen Wiley; Wearables:  Jeffrey Clutter; Wearables:  Samuel Santos; Wearables:  Mallory Midler & Marisa Kaplan; and Wearables:  Taylor Lamoureaux.

West BocaUnder the direction of Instructors John Steranko and Tom Hellyer, the Communications Technology Program is one of only two high schools in Florida to receive PrintED accreditation from the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF).  PrintEd is a national certification program, based on industry standards for graphic communications courses of study.  The following students also earned “Top 20 Honors” in the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce’s August 2009 Boca Festival Days Poster Contest:  Camilia Otaegui, Hallie Toor, Jessica Sexton, Katherine Jeffrey, Kelli Kline, Kristen Wiley, Lea Halfon, Matthew Levey, Megan Pariti, Samuel Santos, Skylar Haas, Travis Faller, Michael Mattson, and Taylor Lamoureaux.
