Miami Carol City Senior High Television Production Program

Teepee invasion

TVMiami Carol City’s Television Production program is designed to provide our students with an overview of the process of television production, including equipment and operation, as well as the functions of production personnel.  Emphasis is placed on understanding the role that software and hardware play in structuring visual, audio, and motion elements that are used to communicate through television. Throughout the school year, Television Production students create a variety of video productions and are allowed to express personal creativity while developing the ability to conceptualize story ideas and effectively translate those ideas into video productions.

During the 2007-2008 school year Ms. Crystal Cunningham and TV production students created their first variety show entitled: Takin’Over The Screen: A Teepee Invasion. The 2007 show was a display of their own “twisted chief” versions and interpretations of reality television.  Later that same year, "Tribal Text"an original horror movie was born. “Tribal Text”is a suspenseful tale about a group of teenage S.G.A members who are preparing for Homecoming week. While facing personal problems of their own, they unexpectantly become involved in what they think is just a cell phone prank. The prank starts off as harmless, but students finally reach their breaking points when friends are killed, relationships are tested, and reality sets in. No one knows who’s behind it all, or Who’s Next To Get Tribal Texted! The 2008 movie premiere raised over $1800 dollars for the program. The next school year students continued with tradition and produced 2008 Tepee Invasion Part 2.  During this time students were also working on their next project entitled "Guilty As Tested". In this hilarious and quirky short film the audience is introduced to bubbly cheerleader Amanda, football jock Michael, bad boy Ki-Lo, and rap star protégé Gutta. Different in character they have one thing in common, the need to pass the FCAT. The students received certificates and awards from the Florida Film Institute and was also featured in the Florida Film Institute April 2009 Newsletter. "Guilty As Tested" will also be entered into the 2009 Miami-Dade Film Festival.  Later  during the same year the Tv production club in association with Cvideo Productions created a movie called “Flat Line”. The movie (written by Ms. Crystal Cunningham & Radhika Thompson) tells the story of Sean Saunders , a 25 year-old  Miami native who lives a care-free  and nonchalant  life.  While he may consider himself to be the ultimate player and opportunist, what he doesn’t  realize is that he is pushing those who love him away. Recent college graduate Natalie Thomas, is desperately trying to get away from what she considers to be a dysfunctional family environment.  While trying to run away from her dry reality, she is distant, anti-social, and treats those around her very cold. She is so trapped in her “stuck-up ways” and “Ms. know-it-all attitude”, she does not realize that she is loved and supported by the very same people she judges. Ironically, both Sean and Natalie are put in a situation that forces them to analyze their flaws and appreciate their life. The "Flat Line" movie premiere raised over $2000 dollars for the program.
