Carla McMullenFACSA members have been busy over the past quarter working together to share best practices.    Members have developed a strong mission statement and draft goals for the organization:

The mission of the Florida Association of Charter School Authorizers (FACSA) is to collaboratively equip districts with professional standards and best practices to authorize and support excellence in chartering for all students.

FACSA Goals

  • Identify and articulate best practices in charter school authorizing statewide.
  • Promote a rigorous charter school application process that encourages the highest level of high student achievement and operational performance.
  • Develop a strong accountability mechanism that monitors charter schools’ effectiveness in meeting it goals.
  • Promote partnerships and mentoring opportunities for the organization and its members.
  • Develop strategies and form partnerships to effect identified change in state policy and state law.

This November 2009, the Department of Education has requested that FACSA provide a presentation outline FACSA purpose and activities over the past year.   In addition, FACSA President, Carolyn Bridges, will provide a Charter Authorizing 101 session for districts who are new to charter authorizing or who are struggling.
