Each summer, a voluntary transitional program aptly named Ready for the Reef encourages incoming grade nine students to join the high school community.  The purpose is two-fold: to ensure a solid, successful start to their academic lives and to provide support for their emotional and social well-being.  Study skills, research protocols, and test preparation are balanced by dramatic, musical, and athletic exercises.  The faculty welcomes the freshman class in an ungraded atmosphere that can only be inviting! Although students are not studying a foreign language at Ready for the Reef, they are involved in a series of multicultural events.  Because of the program’s design, faculty members report that being able to plan and instruct with colleagues outside their own discipline encourages a camaraderie that is unequalled throughout the remainder of the school year.
