August Report: South and Central Parent Resource Centers (PRCs)

Know Your ChoicesDuring the Month of August the South and Central PRCs have been very busy interfacing with parents during many events and targeted schools activities.

On August 16, 2009, we participated in the Miami Dade County Public Schools’ Back to School rally at the American Arena where we gave out 75 book bags and received 102 new names of students from the targeted schools assigned to our PRCs - The event was overwhelming and well attended. In addition, ALL aboard had their Tutoring Mobile outside the arena and was able to connect with many families about PRC and the services they provide to the community.

During the first week of school, August 24-26, 2009 and September 1st, we were able to have a table at the following schools listed below and collect names of parents we intend to invite for the upcoming Choice Chats and Parental Involvement activities. In order to engage the parents, a selected number of book bags were given at each location and school choice information was shared. The schools were: Holmes Elementary, Fredrick Douglas Elementary, E.T. Hartner Elementary, Lake Stevens Elementary and Leisure City K-8 center.
  
Also, the PRCs participated in the SES Fairs on August 29, 2009 at William H. Turner Senior High and at Homestead Senior High on September 5, 2009. At each event 25 book bags and school supplies were given out in exchange for targeted student and parent information.  On August 31, 2009, we all attended the CIS meeting were over 300 CIS were present. Our program was on the agenda and introduced the staff and gave a quick introduction of our new focus for this school year and the targeted schools. A Back to School event and Choice Chat was given at Sant La on August 31, 2009 where 18 parents were present with their children – book bags and school supplies were also given at this event.

For the month of September, we are planning to attend several Open House events, starting the projected Choice Chats activities at our targeted schools and selected PRCs (see Projected Activities document for additional information).

For the Month of August, a total of 374 Contact Profile and Communication Forms were collected – 289 were targeted parents and 85 were Non Targeted Parents - below you will find a breakdown per center.
